general FAQs

Q:

What does 'DAT: ODBC::dbo.tmp_individuals_dedupe (OpenTable) : A file read/write operation failed: DAO error 3251 Operation is not supported for this type of object' mean?

A:

This implies that one of the ODBC input file processing fields is not of simple 'text' type. Unfortunately, owing to potential problems processing the likes of date/currency fields, input database processing fields have to be of 'text' type to be utilised in the Hopewiser software run.

Q:

How do I retrieve software and datafile versions?

A:

Hopewiser software and datafile versions can be retrieved from within any Hopewiser provided interface through the Help|About menu item in the main application window. This can be copied and pasted from the version dialogue box if needed elsewhere. Software and datafile versions are located within output processing run statistics reports.

Q:

What is the standard label format?

A:

There is no standard format.  For details of Royal Mail address specification requirements visit www.royalmail.com. These requirements can be dependent upon the item being mailed and the way it is packaged, and is subject to occasional changes by the Royal Mail.

Q:

Why is the output address county missing/incorrect?

A:

Counties are no longer a requirement of the Royal Mail, however many customers still like to use them. They are controlled in Settings|Preferences|Label panel. You can choose to always output, never output, or output according to a previous requirement e.g., where the town is ambiguous.

Q:

In what order do I set up my processing run?

A:

In general, the setup takes you from left to right within the application toolbar until the run (play) button is reached. The majority of our applications have a Setup Wizard which will navigate the user through the processing setup steps in a logical order.
