Hopewiser's Data Apprentice Achieves Fantastic GCSE Results

Hopewiser's apprentice Bex

Here at Hopewiser we firmly believe in celebrating the achievements of our staff, and we also believe in hiring graduates and other young people in order to provide them with valuable opportunities to kick start their careers. This summer, the company hired Data Analyst, Bex, to gain some experience in handling data whilst she took a break between her GCSE examinations and returning to school to study at A Level.

Last Thursday, a very nervous Bex headed over to Altrincham Grammar School for Girls, where she has studied for the past five years, to receive her GCSE results. After months of hard work and preparation it finally paid off, and she was delighted to find out she had achieved 6 grade 9’s and 3 grade 8’s; both equivalent to an A*.

“I was very shocked and surprised when I opened my results because I wasn’t expecting to have done that well. The whole exam period was very stressful and difficult at times, but the hard work has paid off. I am very, very happy. “

Bex is returning to her secondary school to study Maths, Further Maths, Computing, and Physics at A Level next week, and she is really looking forward to it. From a young age she has aspired to work in either Cyber Security or as a Data Analyst.

“I remember being in Year 7 and deciding that was what I wanted to do for my career. During IT lessons we learnt and practised coding which I enjoyed doing straight away. Then in Year 10, I told some of the teachers about this project that I’d read about, CyberFirst, which is provided by the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ).

“It was a nationwide competition and lots of schools took part. Whilst my school didn’t win it was an amazing experience as we were given various challenges to complete on different aspects of Cyber Security.”

Bex expresses that she is looking forwarding to studying towards her A Levels, especially because she will be focusing solely on subjects that will help her to achieve her ultimate career goal. When asked about the next step after sixth form, she has set her sights on  the University of Cambridge to study Computer Science.

The budding data student started at Hopewiser soon after finishing her GCSE exams and quickly became a confident and conscientious member of the team. She enjoys working with data and on a daily basis she compiles records from various sources and enters them into spreadsheets for further research by the business.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Hopewiser. It has provided me with some valuable experiences in terms of data management and what an office environment is like, and I’ll be taking away with me many skills that I can apply to my studies and eventually my career. Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming, I will be sad to leave.”

We are all extremely proud of Bex, not only for her GCSE success but for all her hard work here at Hopewiser over the summer. On behalf of everyone here at the company, we wish her all the luck in the world with her future. Well done!
