Twelve years have passed since Hopewiser Ltd under direction of Phil Good recognised the need in the market place for software that tied together names, addresses and postcodes. From the first step of approaching the Royal Mail to use their Postal Addressing Files gave Hopewiser every address in the UK meaning postal software was born.
Those early days were dogged by a lack of belief in the market place consequently meaning that between 1983 - 1986 Hopewiser went on to develop various bespoke software packages for clients, these ranged from a media analysis system for a coach tour operator to 'Mail Plan Four' still described as the most advanced Direct Mail Package in the market place.
Hopewiser was now under contract to many blue chip clients however it was not until 1987 that the Post Office contacted Hopewiser and asked for help at specific locations, focusing on addresses and postcodes. Imperial Tobacco and Tandy Corporation were both heavy users of the Post Office for mailings. Unfortunately both companies were suffering a high volume of returns on their mailings due to wrong addresses.
Hopewiser therefore introduced their postcoding system that validated the addresses and the postcodes which resulted in 99% guarantee of mailings - success indeed. In 1988 with a reputation beginning to build the market began to recognise the benefits of postal address software. Business began to grow and new staff, systems and premises were taken on.
Relationships with the Royal Mail continued to flourish as Hopewiser were beginning to be seen as expert problem solvers. The company developed the first ever micro postcoding system with full interactive facilities. The postcode system was then amended for the Royal Mail's mainframe at Chesterfield originally to be used for TV Licensing.
In 1989 a new Postcode Address File was introduced by the Royal Mail. Within two months Hopewiser were to release it to their client base - again a first in the industry. Today Hopewiser is without doubt the leader in the market place backed by state of the art technology and the fact that Hopewiser is number one when it comes to address software technology and always will be.
